The BB Heroine

Today I have a review of a BB cream of the Asian variety - the Asian brands seem to do the best BBs am I right? They were the originals after all! I have the Heroine Make Lasting Mineral BB cream in the shade 02. Sadly they only have 2 shades and both are quite light, however that is how Asian BB creams tend to run. I picked this product on a total whim when I was in Hong Kong as I'd heard nothing about it, so I had no predispositions toward it!

The BB cream has an SPF of 34 with PA++ which is awesome to see in a makeup product - but considering how obsessed Asians are with protecting their skin, it's not surprising. Typically, Asian BB creams have many skincare benefits but seeing as all the writing on the package in another language, I'm not too sure if this one does (my Chinese reading skills aren't that good)! Regardless I'm not too fussed as that is why I use skincare!

The texture of the Lasting Mineral BB cream is thick but still creamy and easily blended. I usually use my fingers to really work the product into my skin, but a brush works fine too. Like I said in my last favourites, the coverage and lasting power of this BB cream are the best in my collection! The coverage is light to medium, but erring on the side of medium and buildable. When used rather thickly, I hardly need concealer and it functions as a foundation really, but it can also be applied lightly. It has a satin-matte finish initially. I find I can wear this for 10 hours and only really be shiny on the nose, and 'dewy' in the t-zone. It's actually a look I like as it's really melded with the skin and looks very natural. This is with setting powder (as always), however I don't use mattifying sunscreen underneath so it's definitely a testament to its staying power. Because it's a bit thicker, and a heavier coverage, it's not as natural looking or weightless on the skin as other BB creams. It doesn't accentuate dry patches or make my skin dry, but is a little bit more obvious on the skin - more like a foundation. Regardless - that is the trade off for a better coverage and staying power than lighter, skin-like products.

The shade 02 is a bit light for me, but what I like about it is that it is not grey toned or ashy like other Asian BB creams can be, but is actually yellow toned. Although the shade is a bit light, it's definitely workable and because it blends so well, it's hardly detectable!

I absolutely love this BB cream and its staying power and coverage are outstanding. I've even been reaching for this over foundation as it offers similar coverage but has a better lasting power, and is one of those products that look better as the day goes on!

  1. This BB cream sounds amazing, but it sucks that there's only 2 shades available!

  3. My holy grail mascara is form this brand! The long & curl mascara! I've been wanting to buy a powder compact, bb cream compact or thing from them for a while! I realized that while I'm in asian I should buy more asian brands of make up. I'm so happy that you find the qualities amazing, I love asian bbs, they are usually thick, pigmented and give good coverage. I always set mine with a powder no matter the finish. You should do that to match it better!

    1. I have that mascara but am yet to open it! Haha, if I had access to more asian brands I'd definitely be buying more! I always set with powder as I have combination skin - I also bronze up and use blush to help it match better.

  4. Mineral BB cream?! Awesome! I'm going to Asia soon and am looking into buying one of the 'original' BB creams. The two shade selection is a strain but I'll still have a look, this sounds awesome!

    1. Ooh yay - they have so many BB creams on offer, I was totally in the dark about which to buy! I'm sure whichever you choose will work out, I've not heard a bad thing about any Asian BB cream. The Heroine Make stand had testers though which is one of the reasons why I picked it.

  5. This sound great! I have uber fair skin so maybe it'll match me? I was worried that it might be too pink or ashy. Does it have any scent? I usually break out from asian bb creams because they're fragranted :/

    1. It's definitely yellow toned and pale - there is a shade lighter! It doesn't have a distinct fragrance at all.

  6. Ooh, this sounds like a good one! I agree that Asian BB creams seem to be the best. I love Missha Perfect Cover and recently tried from from Elisha Coy that was also great! xo

  7. Oh, I hate when BB Creams are grey toned - who even is that color naturally? But this sounds good, most Asian BB creams I read about are sheer to light coverage so this is really insteresting! I've been meaning to try other Asian BB Cream besides the Skin79 pink one, but I can't decide, there's so many!

  8. For the longest time I was like "WAIT, WHAT BRAND IS THIS". This is definitely not a brand I've heard of before! But dang, that stuff looks creamy! I've been meaning to try an Asian BB cream for the longest time now, since we now have Missha/Holika Holika/Face Shop etc stores where I live but like....THERE'S SO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM. One I've really been meaning to try is Dr Jart though!

(on another note though, WTF @ the two shades part. WHAT ABOUT DARKER SKINNED ASIANS, HUH? THX 4 MARGINALIZING YOUR CONSUMERS, HEROINE MAKE. [kinda like how clothing stores in Asia tend to run super tiny and I'm like an XL-XXL over there. -sob-)

    1. Ooh, that is so cool that you have easy access to those brands. Research girly! I've heard good things about the Missha bb creams, but pretty much any asian bb cream will be good I reckon!

YUS. In Australia we are apparently we are 'sun worshippers' - I TAN. Gawd my sock tan is horrendous. Haha, but asian asians are all super wary of like stayin pale sooo the darker shades probably would sell at all lol.

    2. Same about the Missha one! But like, return policies for asian makeup is kinda horrible...iirc.

Idk, I associate Aussie with ~SURFING~ and ~SUN ACTIVITIES~ and one of my old teachers actually moved to Aussie to ~pursue~ dat active lifestyle. I DONT EVEN WANT TO KNOW WHY YOURE WEARING SOCKS IN HOT WEATHER?

    4. Haha, do you think we ride kangaroos? Well that is generally our stereotype but letsbereal, it's me, I don't go outside. I have to wear school shoes! Therefore must wear socks - there is a whole uniform policy at our school!

And yay - I asked what your url was in my reply comment on my march faves but woo I followed back :) Also, scrolled through your blog and looks like we have some common fandoms :D
